WordPress Mobile Plugin Install Guide and FAQ

Filed under: Mobile Internet, Mobile Plugins, Mobile Websites, Wordpress Mobile

wampfw

As I needed to create a home page for my WordPress mobile plugin other than that at wordpress.org, I’ve created this post in order to fulfill both that need and provide a forum for people to comment and contribute.

The text is taken straight from the readme file, so if you’ve arrived here rather than the official page at WP, at least you can get the information you need! If you just want to download the plugin, here’s a direct link.

Wapple Architect Mobile plugin for WordPress

Requires at least: 2.0
Tested up to: 2.9.2
Stable tag: 3.4

Description

Wapple Architect Mobile Plugin for WordPress is a plugin that allows you to mobilize your blog in minutes.

Every single mobile device is detected and all aspects of your blog are tailored to the visiting handset. Sites aren’t dumbed down to the lowest common denominator but instead use the features and functionality that advanced phones offer.

Devices are detected by using Wapple’s advanced web services instead of relying on inferior 3rd party tools. If you view your blog with a brand new, never before seen handset, it’ll still work perfectly!

Any theme you’ve installed and have styled for web will be carried across to mobile giving you a consistent look and feel for each and every one of your visitors.

Why it’s different to other plugins:

  • Other mobile plugins for WordPress use a default mobile style which results in an inconsistent experience for your users, Wapple Architect Mobile plugin for WordPress retains the styling of your site from web to mobile.
  • There’s no redirection to a mobile version of the blog – URLs are exactly the same on web and mobile giving you the ability to promote and use one single domain!
  • No transcoding happens here – the mobile version is written in WAPL (an advanced mobile markup language) that results in a completely tailored solution perfect for your mobile visitors.
  • Other plugins try to replicate every single feature and plugin you’ve installed onto the mobile version. We know what mobile users want and have written this plugin with that in mind – the result is a far better user experience.

Features

  • Dynamic resizing of images
  • Retain SEO, preserve your URL structure and promote one single domain
  • Mobile Advertising Integration: Admob & Google Adsense

  • Upload mobile specific header/footer images – resized on the fly to fit a visitors handset perfectly
  • Place mobile friendly navigation links around your site to help users browse around your blog
  • Advanced pagination – split up long posts into manageable chunks that make reading a post on mobile easier
  • Any theme that you’ve installed will have its styles carried across to mobile giving you a consistent look and feel for all your visitors.
  • Complete freedom over how you want to style your mobile site. We’ve done our best to make the mobile stylesheet as comprehensive as possible but no doubt there will be a few things you want to change – you can by editing a few settings.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I get a dev key?

Head over to Wapple and fill out the simple form, you should be able to get your dev key within a couple of minutes!

Why doesn’t the plugin work? I see the web version on my mobile!

Have you entered your dev key into the Wapple Architect settings?
If not, head over to Settings > Wapple Architect (or Options > Wapple Architect if you’re on version 2.3.3 and under) and enter it into the “Dev Key” input box.

Do I need SOAP and SimpleXML running for this plugin to work?

In older versions of the plugin, you needed SOAP and SimpleXML, but not any more! From version 1.5.13, the dependancy on SimpleXML has been totally removed! You also do not need SOAP and can communicate with Wapple’s web services via REST.

How do I customize the header and/or CSS?

If you want to upload a custom mobile header image, check out the settings area, it’s in the section titled: “Basic
Settings” and at the bottom there’s a section called “Mobile Theme Settings” – your mobile stylesheet is in there!

You’re free to customize any of these, infact, the more you customize the CSS, the better your site will look!

I can’t customize my CSS or upload a header/footer image!

Check write permissions on the /wp-content/uploads/ folder, it needs to be writable!

  1. Ol Says:

    Hey thanks for releasing this plugin – Really looks very good indeed.

    OK so essentially, I’m working with a site designed solely for mobile, and the main function I’m really keen to gain from the use of this plugin is the automatic resizing of images – the site theme is already mobile friendly for the most part, so it’s just the ability to resize images on the fly I’m looking for.

    Is it possible to pinpoint the part in the source of your theme that provides that functionality and use it in my own?

    The other useful aspect would be to allow all browsers to read the external CSS file – currently some mobile handsets will only pay attention to the CSS if it’s been placed inline with the HTML course – again, does this plugin provide that functionality?

    I’m playing with it all and trying to understand how it all works, but so far I’m a little stumped, so any help would be *massively* appreciated.

    Cheers,

  2. Rich Gubby Says:

    Thanks for the feedback, hope you’re enjoying using the plugin!

    Images get dynamically resized on the fly anyway in posts and you can set the scale and quality inside “Settings > Wapple Architect” – but some more options to fine tune this would be very useful. Maybe be able to tailor the scale depending on how big the original image is … I’ll add it to the roadmap and try to get it into version 1.2!

    If you want to have a look at the code yourself and change things – have a look at the wapl_builder.php file around lines 420. There’s a bit in there to do a str_replace on image matches and replace them with the scale (and quality) you’ve set in your options. You could possibly make some amendments in there.

    Inline CSS would be another useful option and i’ll certainly see if I can get it into 1.2.

    Hope this helps and if you do make some mods to your version of the plugin, send me a copy, it might save me a bit of work!

    Thanks!

  7. Carm Says:

    I’m using WordPress as a CMS, with no blog or comments at all.

    WAPL Architect is great for mobile devices in General, but specifically for the iPhone, and my menu-driven “static pages”-only site, I like the JScript menu and Apple App Store compliant styling from “WPtouch iPhone Theme” much better – on the iPhone/iTouch/Google-Android/Blackberry-Storm.

    I want to use both plugins, and I want “WPtouch iPhone Theme” to handle iPhone/iTouch/Google-Android/Blackberry-Storm visitors, but WAPL Architect to handle all other mobile visitors.

    Currently I have both plugins (WPtouch and WAPL Architect) activated, and WAPL Architect is handling theme for all mobiles, including iPhone. How can I divide visitors between the two plugins?

    Thanks

  8. Carm Says:

    Two issues:
    - Comments are turned off on my site (not allowed), but when viewing posts thru WAPL Architect, comments show up to be added.

    - When viewed thru a Blackberry, front page does not show with the WAPL Architect theme, but shows with the normal web theme instead. All other pages and posts show with the WAPL Architect theme.

    These issues are show-stoppers for me.

  9. Carm Says:

    Found the WAPL Architect setting that turns off comments on posts.

    On Blackberry, still getting the desktop theme on front page, while all other pages show WAPL Architect theme.

    Thanks

  10. Rich Gubby Says:

    It’s possible, although what would be nicer, is to integrate something into the architect plugin so that you could design the site differently depending on the visiting browser. You can already do it if you’re writing native WAPL using rules, but it’s a bit more difficult to give control over that to the WP control panel.

    As always, leave it with me and I’ll see what I can do!

  11. Carm Says:

    So I figured out how to give WPTouch precidence when applicable, using Wapple Architect for all other mobile devices.

    - Do this procedure each time after you update Wapple Architect plugin

    - Open architect.php in the Wapple Architect plugin

    - Search for these lines:
    function deviceDetection()
    {
    // Only do this if we’re on a non-admin page (for now!)
    if(!is_admin())

    - Change that “if” statement to say this:
    if(!is_admin() && !wptouch_detectAppleMobile())

    - Insert before the function definition, this function definition (slightly modified from wptouch.php)

    function wptouch_detectAppleMobile($query = ”) {
    $container = $_SERVER['HTTP_USER_AGENT'];
    // Add whatever user agents you want here to the array if you want to make this show on a Blackberry
    // or something. No guarantees it’ll look pretty, though!
    $useragents = array(
    “iPhone”,
    “iPod”,
    “aspen”,
    “dream”,
    “incognito”,
    “webmate”,
    “BlackBerry9500″,
    “BlackBerry9530″);
    foreach ($useragents as $useragent) {
    if (eregi($useragent, $container)) {
    return true;
    }
    }
    return false;
    }

    Now make sure both Wapple Architect and WPtouch plugins are activated. WPTouch will handle the list of agents shown in the array above (which includes iPhone/iTouch/Google-Android/Blackberry-Storm), and Wapple Architect will handle all other mobile devices.

    Thanks

  12. Rich Gubby Says:

    Glad you got it sorted, but it does raise the question that if you’ve got commenting off on mobile, do you want to show any comments you may have had from web? Not really applicable in your case as you don’t have comments anywhere, but it could be another option!

    With regards to the Blackberry, it’ll be another case of manufacturers not supplying the right information on their mobile phones – you can read more about it in this article. It’s about an Android, but it’s the same thing happening.

  13. Rich Gubby Says:

    Thanks for the comment and code example!

    One thing to bear in mind though when doing something like this, is that the user agent can’t always be relied upon to do device detection. It might work some of the time, it might not work in other cases. Manufacturers are always making spelling mistakes and errors and have to update fairly regularly. Research In Motion for example tells you that their phones don’t support CSS, which is ridiculous as it’s obvious to anyone who’s used one that it does. The code you’ve quoted might work for a “Blackberry9530″, but what about a “BlackBerry 9530″ (with a space in)?

    The best solution if you wanted to do something dependant on the handset type, would be to have options in the Wapple Architect settings page that allow you to define rules for iPhones and Androids and whatever other phone you want. It’s definitely a suggestion to go into the roadmap for future release!

  14. Charles Says:

    I am having trouble viewing the mobile site on a Blackberry mobile. I have signed up for a dev key and I have entered it in the wordpress settings. Wapple Architect is the only mobile plugin I have installed. I have iframes on my site as well – would that conflict with the plugin diplaying properly on a mobile? The plugin doesn’t seem to work and how do I check to see if SIMPLE XML is installed on my server? What troubleshooting steps can I take? Any help is much appreciated. Thanks

  15. Rich Gubby Says:

    Hi Charles.

    iframes could really mess up the site, but the mobile plugin should handle it. To check if you’ve got SimpleXML installed, you can log into your control panel and head to “Settings > Wapple Architect”. If you get a big red error message at the top saying you haven’t got simpleXML, then you haven’t got it – otherwise you’re ok to go!

    What version of the plugin are you using? And which version of WordPress have you got installed?

    I was wondering if instead of displaying the most recent posts when you first hit the mobile version if you can display multiple categories and the most recent posts for each category???

  26. Rich Gubby Says:

    It’s funny you should mention that – I’m working on that bit of functionality right now. Version 1.5 will allow you to do exactly what you want! Keep your eyes open for an update!

  27. Ryan Says:

    Hi Rich,

    Awesome plugin! I love how it looks on my BB. One thing I wish it had was the ability to do basic admin, like add/edit/delete posts and pages and moderate comments also.

    Is there any way possible this could work out with your plugin in the future? For now, I am using the WP app for BlackBerry which is working out ok for now.

    Thanks for what you do!

  28. Rich Gubby Says:

    That’s coming in a later version and is definitely something that will happen! Once I’ve got version 1.5 finished with the ability to display category posts I’ll start work on an admin area.

    Once it’s done, it might even be worth pushing it to version 2.0!!

  29. Ryan Says:

    Thanks Rich for the prompt feedback. I will patiently await :-) !

  30. Rich Gubby Says:

    Hi! Just thought I’d let you know that version 1.5 now supports building your home page by category! If you upgrade to v1.5, you’ll get an option to do exactly what you wanted!

  31. Tracey Says:

    Can you tell me if this works with password-protected posts? I’m using the YourMember plugin so that some areas are for members only.

  32. Tracey Says:

    One other question: on my normal site I’m using ShareThis plugin, and I have the ability for users to sign in in a sidebar widget. Is there any way to have these display?

  33. Rich Gubby Says:

    Hi Tracey – I’ll check and see if it supports it and get back to you!

  34. Rich Gubby Says:

    You currently can’t have a sidebar. Great idea though, I’ll put it on the list of features to implement!

  35. Tracey Says:

    Thanks, Rich! So many plugins now have sidebar functionality that I imagine this will be a deciding factor for many in choosing this over others. I will be waiting eagerly for this!

  36. Tracey Says:

    Oh, and with the Share This plugin, I have it at the bottom of pages, but not posts (you can move it around). I’ll wait to hear on this one. I guess that was a total of three questions: is sidebar functionality preserved; is password-protection preserved; and can Share This be displayed.

  37. Rich Gubby Says:

    I’ve added password protection support into the latest version which will be released tomorrow. If you grab an update when it’s ready you’ll be able to protect your posts from nosy readers!

  38. Tracey Says:

    That’s good. I do already have a complete solution for that. There are slews of plugins out there that add some kind of functionality in the sidebar, so I’ll be eagerly awaiting that.

    While there is another plugin that offers the user’s sidebar widgets to continue functioning by putting the “sidebar” at the bottom of each post/page, Wapple Architect has so many other improvements over it. So I can’t wait to see this feature added! That would make it so you didn’t have to add every little bit of functionality within Architect. Win/win.

  39. Rich Gubby Says:

    Support for password protected posts is now available in the latest version of the plugin (v1.5.3) – grab an update to take advantage of this new feature!

    In addition, there is support (if you want it) to put access keys for easier navigation on handsets.

  40. Omar Sony Says:

    Hi great plugin – i got a fatal error

    “Parse error: parse error, unexpected T_OBJECT_OPERATOR in /home/content/g/o/s/XXXX/html/wp-content/plugins/wapple-architect/theme/wapl_builder.php on line 447″

    Please help

  41. Omar Sony Says:

    oh by the way i just realized I was using PHP4 and just upgraded to version 5. That probably why I got this error – I’ll post feedback here once upgrade is effective

  42. Omar Sony Says:

    it works wth PHP5 thanks

  43. Rich Gubby Says:

    Omar – thaks for letting me know that you got it sorted. You need PHP5 because the plugin needs simpleXML in order to parse results back from a web service call and as it’s only available in PHP5, that’s why it’s required.

    However, I’m going to look at some way of parsing XML in PHP4 so that it works for everyone – it won’t make any difference to you now you’re on PHP5, but it’d be good for others!

  44. Duane Haas Says:

    Wanted to thank you for the great plugin. I’ve been looking for one that sizes images correctly and also looks good. I just have a few questions.

    I use this plugin to allow HTML compliant videos on my site – XHTML Video Embed v0.3.6. I went through and tried to find a video on the site and it just comes up with the basic and wouldn’t pop up a video. So I went to youtube and directly loaded a video to that post using their format and that failed as well. Is there any way to get these types of plugins to work with your themes?

    Thanks a lot!

    Duane

  45. Rich Gubby Says:

    Hi Duane,

    I’ll take a look at embedding videos properly for all phones both from youtube and other sources.

    Leave it with me and keep an eye on the comments on this post as I’ll let you know my progress when I’m done.

    So I’ve got something to reference – have you got an existing post with a youtube video on? Or have you got a plugin that does it for you?

  46. Duane Haas Says:

    http://dailyfailblog.com/2009/09/19/drunk-camper-fail/ Is a direct link to a post on my site. When viewed from the web, it works out just fine. When it is viewed on the mobile site it shows up like this

    Drunk Camper FAIL

    This entry was posted under Fail Videos,Funny Videos

    Which is the code the plugin uses to make a video based on youtube’s recommendations. So I went in to the site and found that youtube video and embedded the normal code that comes straight from the youtube panel -

    And this wouldn’t show up in the mobile version either. So I’m not sure what I need to fix or if the plugin would even be compatible with a mobile site. Thanks for the quick response!

  47. Rich Gubby Says:

    Thanks for posting the link.

    I’m going to create something that supports the plugin you’re talking about and embeds the videos properly. Shouldn’t be too hard to do, just need to make sure that it works for all devices (that support video of course!).

    Keep an eye on the comments on here for video news. Also, I post regular updates with minor bug fixes/upgrades on twitter, are you following us? http://twitter.com/mobilewebjunkie

  48. Duane Haas Says:

    Wow I’m just full of “tips” lol… You should also provide support for the seo all in one plugin as well. I actually deactivated the plugin until the video part is correct, but I checked my SEO in the search engines as well and it came up wrong.

    This is what comes up with the wapple plugin activated –

    Which has a lot more SEO Value with it. Just some pointers I guess.

    Thanks again! I do love the layout of the plugin and I will continue to use it.

  49. Brian Says:

    I like the way it works, especially utilizing mobile access keys.
    2 drawbacks:
    1) mobile size is still a bit big- around 30-60 KB (although perhaps this can be adjusted down by uploading small header/footer images as replacements to the standard images).
    2) doesn’t work at all with Japanese text (or I assume any double-byte characters)

  50. Rich Gubby Says:

    Thanks for the feedback! I’m always working on getting the size down as much as well as making speed improvements to the code – it’s a constant work in progress!

    With regards to Japanese text – I usually add support for languages when they’re asked for so I’ll add Japanese text in the next version!

  51. VVOR Says:

    Thanks, Great plugin!

  52. Rich Gubby Says:

    Hi Duane.

    I’ve built in support for the in-built youtube tags in wordpress () – it’s in the latest version (1.5.7).

    Which plugin were you using and I’ll update it so that it works for your plugin as well.

  53. Rich Gubby Says:

    Hi Brian – Just to let you know, I’ve added support for Japanese text (and any other language too) – let me know what you think and if it’s ok!

  54. Duane Haas Says:

    Awesome Thanks a lot for listening to my feedback. What you did was great, but it didn’t work for my site. Most video clip plugins use this standard – whereas yours used . If I kept this plugin, I would have to go back through the 372 videos I have already posted and changed it to your standard (which would cause it not to work in the desktop version).

    Sorry about causing all of the trouble. I really do thank you for bringing a great mobile plugin to WordPress. I just know of a lot of video based sites that can’t use it because of the standard you used. Hope this little bit of feedback helps you, and its just an easy change in the coding to get it to work right!

    Thanks again!

    Duane

  55. Duane Haas Says:

    Oh yea… I am using the most up to date versions of both the plugin and wordpress if you need that info.

  56. Rich Gubby Says:

    I can definitely provide functionality for the tags you’ve got, it shouldn’t take more than a few minutes.

    Which youtube plugin are you using for your videos? If you can let me know I’ll provide mobile support in my plugin!!

  57. Duane Haas Says:

    The plugin I use for youtube videos is called Smart YouTube because it still allows playback on the iPhone – http://www.prelovac.com/vladimir/wordpress-plugins/smart-youtube

  58. Duane Haas Says:

    The plugin I am using is XHTML embed but I am tempted to start using Smart YouTube so that it can play on the iPhone. So either plugin would be great to use.

  59. Rich Gubby Says:

    Hi Duane.

    Just to let you know, the latest version (1.5.7.1) has support for native youtube videos, Smart YouTube and XHTML embed video – all of the different types of ways to put a youtube video in should be supported!

    Let me know how you get on – if you have any issues, please post them on here!

  60. Duane Haas Says:

    Thanks a lot! That does add a lot of mobility to my site.

    I don’t know if anyone else has this problem, but when I activate the plugin I can’t use IE8 with my website. I can deactivate it and the site comes up normally and then I can activate it and it won’t let me into the site at all.

    It may be a combination of plugins, but I would like to get other people’s opinions first.

  61. Rich Gubby Says:

    Duane, shouldn’t be a problem – can you do me a favour and visit this URL in IE8? http://go.wapple.net/debug

    I’ll be able to diagnose the issue in a bit more detail from there and will hopefully resolve it pretty quickly!

    If you can let me know when you visit that URL that’d be great!

  63. Duane Haas Says:

    I went to the site, but it too won’t load. It gives me an error like the site is wanting to download something. Here is the error I am getting –

    Internet explorer was not able to open this Internet site. The requested site is either unavailable or cannot be found. Please try again later.

    Here is a link to a screenshot of what I am experiencing – http://dailybloglist.com/fail/wp-content/uploads/wapple.jpg . I don’t really use IE8 anymore, but anytime I add a plugin I let to check everything to make sure its compatible.

  64. Rich Gubby Says:

    Should be ok now – have added browser detection for IE8.

    Can you give it another try and let me know how it goes?

  65. Duane Haas Says:

    Still getting the same error messages on my site and yours.

  66. Duane Haas Says:

    Fixed it! Thanks Rich!

  67. Suprada Says:

    Hi Rich, Thanks for the awesome plugin. In my posts page, I am trying to limit the width of the posts to the browser screen. I know I need to put “width:300px;” or “width: auto;” somewhere in the css. Can you help me with which class / div controls this?

  68. Tracey Says:

    Hi again, I just saw Dougal Campbell’s blog about the WP 2.9 features, one of which is a Widget Anywhere function. How will Architect handle this–is it in the works? I see where WP 2.9 is in beta testing now, and they hope to release it fully at the end of November.

  69. Rich Gubby Says:

    Hi!

    The width by default is set to auto (or maybe 100%) so it fits perfectly. Is there something on your site that is looking too wide for your phone screen?

  70. Rich Gubby Says:

    Hi Tracey,

    I’ll be checking out the 2.9 features as soon as I can and will let you know my findings. If I do find an incompatibility though I’ll make it a matter of urgency to fix it. Saying that though, because of the way the plugin is constructed, I can’t see there being a problem!

    Nice plugin. Almost all works fine, but I’m having problems with download links. On my site I use not direct links, but custom output format – [download id="0" format="1"]. While Pocket Internet Explorer (as any browser), when page is loaded, show normal download link, with Wapple Architect v.1.5.7.3 switched on, it shows no link at all, just simple text [download id="0" format="1"], as it looks on page when editing. I thought that WP Super Cache was the problem. But when I switched off WP Super Cache, nothing changed. How can I cope with it? Is there a solution to it? Everything else, in my case, is awesome, exept that I need to translate some words to my language (russian) directly in plugin files!
    And once more, plugin works normaly only when activated before WP Super Cache. When after, pages are shown not in mobile view.

    I have:
    WordPress: version 2.7.1

    I don’t really know how to start trouble shooting this thing either.

    This plugin now seemingly requires at least WordPress version 2.8, not 2.0 as stated above.

    As you can see on the wp.org support forum, you will get an error because the WP function “esc_attr()” is only in WP 2.8 and later.

    http://wordpress.org/support/topic/327591

    if you want to “fix” this error and maintain your older WP version, do something like…

    if(!function_exists(‘esc_attr’))
    {
    function esc_attr($string)
    {
    return htmlspecialchars( $string, ENT_QUOTES);
    }
    }

  88. Rich Gubby Says:

    Congrats on the new update and thanks a lot. My blog is a picture blog that I like to keep mobile because I don’t want to have to rewrite all of my posts if I decide I want a different domain name for my site. I use this path to place my images on my site /wp-content/uploads/image.jpg instead of the normal hxxp://site.com/wp-content/uploads/image.jpg so that if I switch the site to a new domain name (or change my primary DN on my server) my site will still function. But when I check my site the the architect plugin activated, my pictures don’t render because they aren’t using the correct paths. Would you know of a code to always include the path hxxp://site.com when rendering images?

    Thanks and keep up the great work!

    I really like your plug-in. It seems much better than WP Mobile Pack and the likes. Well done!

    I use WordPress for a website that displays cultural events. I want to show the events (posts) not by publish date, but by event date. So I am using a plug-in that with a bit of hand coding and the use of a custom filed (event_date) it will order the posts by event_date and will prevent posts with event_date < today from showing.

    I need to do the same for your Wapple plug-in. Can you please tell me where I need to go to do that?

    I love this plugin, and everything works great…..except one little thing I can’t get to work. The adsense ads….I just get a sample ad down in my footer. So I’m assuming I’ve done something wrong. what format should the client ID be in? Ive got a channel id in there, and I’ve tried pub-0000000000000000 and just 0000000000000000, but neither way did I get anything other than the sample ad to show……any idea what I’m doing wrong? Thanks for the plugin!

  125. Tim Hering Says:

    Hi,

    This is a great plug in! Thank you! I did want to mention that on my BlackBerry Storm 2, it initially renders the mobile version slightly too wide for the screen. I have fixed this by making the header and footer images wider and moving the content in them to the left to compensate for the right side being hidden under the scroll bar and also adjusting the right margin on the body text so that wasn’t a big deal…

    I did have a question about adding share and tweet this buttons to the mobile version of the pages. I’m still working on the blog part of the website but have been using the sociable plugin to add some of those buttons to the posts. Those do not show up on the mobile version so I would guess I would have to add something to the loop and if so, where would I look to do that. I am thinking of switching to something more on the lines of tweetmeme and then adding a share on facebook, and google buzz button and getting rid of the sociable plug in.

    Also, is there a way to get static pages to split into smaller chunks like the post pages do?

    Thanks!

    Sorry for my bad english :D

  127. Rich Gubby Says:

    There was a really small issue with Google Adsense ads appearing which has now been fixed – let me know how you get on!

  128. Rich Gubby Says:

    Hi Heiko – hopefully all should be ok now in the latest release – it was a little issue with encoding of characters on the main home page! Please let me know if there are any other issues!

  129. Rich Gubby Says:

    Tim – great idea about splitting up pages into smaller chunks, I’ll check it out and see if I can add it in! If you’re looking at changing the code – take a look in the “theloop.php” file inside theme/elements – it follows a fairly similar structure to the normal loop. If you make any progress I’d love to see it!

  130. Rev. Voodoo Says:

    hmm…I noticed there was an upgrade availabale yesterday….so I went through with that. So I’m on the latest version as of today. Now when I visit my website (from PC) I immediately land on the mobile version rather than the desktop version. I had to deactivate the plugin, as that’s obviously not ideal….any ideas.

    Also, I configured the w3 cache plugin last week. Things seemed to be OK, but thing there is any conflict between the two? The timing could be a coincidence

  131. Rich Gubby Says:

    Might be an issue on your PC with cookies – try clearing them down, re-activate the plugin and try it again.

    The cache plugin does cause some problems – try disabling that too. I’m working on a fix so it works with all caching plugins – that’ll be coming soon.

  132. Rev. Voodoo Says:

    Looks like I’ll have to wait for the cache friendly version! I’ll be waiting, I dig this plugin! Thanks for the hard work!

    Searching this message on Google reveals about 350 other blogs which are having the same issue, but I couldn’t find any information on what this means or how to fix it. Using version 3.4.1. Any thoughts?

  136. Joshua Says:

    Great job on this, Rich!! It says above that as of version 1.5.1 there’s full support for WP-Super-Cache. However, I’m using 3.4.1 and I can’t get anything to cache after activating Wapple Architect. (Super-Cache is turned on, but nothing is cached.) Your last comment here indicates that you’re currently working on cache support… do you anticipate that Super-Cache and Wapple Architect will play nice once you’re finished this task? Thanks in advance!

    Still can’t quite get the adsense thing figured out. The caching issue I had seems to have resolved itself. I couldn’t figure out if my client-ID for adsense should be pub-0000000000000000 or just 0000000000000000, if I don’t put the pub- it throws an error in the header. If I do put the pub- in, I get the sample ad again. I can’t get my actual ads to show up…..

    I found a slight issue you could fix. For the option to show “the first image in the post” on the home page: if you have very tall images or wide, they do not get resized properly, then when displayed in the iPhone Light theme, cause funny wrapping issues with the images on the next few posts.

The site loads on the iphone and puts the pages in the menu but when I click on the links they go to server/pagename rather than the actual address of the page which is server/?page_id=2. I’ve tried sever different plug ins for mobile devices and haven’t found one that can just bring up a simple page with a list of pages. If anyone has any suggestion it would be appreciated.

  164. John Says:

    I love the plugin so far (still learning it). I’m using WP 3.0.1 and Wapple Architect 3.7. I uploaded a header and footer image and added footer content (all in the basic settings). When I went to themes, I tested the look of various themes, but none seemed to work. I’m testing it on an Android (Samsung Intercept). None of the themes show up as themes. I only get the selected menu items, header/footer images, footer content, and text-only blog posts (titles, summaries). Do I need to put some meta CSS call line for mobile phones in the site’s head code?

  165. John Says:

    Just noticed one more problem (using the same Android cell phone). For some reason, when I try going to a post, I get the following error:
    “WAPL ERROR: Start tag: Invalid element”

    I don’t get this when I go to a page on the site.

  166. John Says:

    Update: I’m now getting that error for the home page. Can’t open the site.

  167. John Says:

    Getting error with plugin. Whenever I try to visit my site on two versions of the Android (the original and upgrade versions), I get the following error: “WAPL ERROR: StartTag: invalid element name.” I have no idea what would cause that. I’ve tried every setting I can think of.

  168. John Says:

    Oops. I reposted the issue because my comments weren’t showing up on the site. Please disregard my fourth post (just above). :)

    Me again. I keep plugging you, but I’ve found out the mobile version of my site isn’t working and hasn’t been for awhile. It’s a problem with the functions file. If you click on my site, you’ll see the code it’s generating. At one point my site was even generating this on the standard setting, so that no one could access it at all.

  171. Rich Gubby Says:

    hi chad – there is an option for that – it’s on the advanced section and is called “Access Keys”

    I will be responding to the other requests as soon as I can – there is also a new version coming soon hopefully fixing a few bugs and issues!
