PHP Classes Package Now Available

Filed under: Mobile Plugins, Mobile Web Development, PHP Classes

Building your mobile friendly website is getting easier each day.

We’ve already released plugins and components for a number of different applications – CakePHP, Joomla and WordPress to name a few.

But what happens if you’re not running one of these apps but still need a mobile friendly website? If you don’t have the time or patience to write the mobile tools yourself using WAPL our latest offering might be just what you’ve been looking for!

We’ve released a package on phpclasses.org which provide you with a whole suite of builder classes and functions to make the process of building your mobile website easier. There’s a function that creates a SOAP client, another one to check you’ve got SOAP and some that actually write your WAPL for you. It’s already proved to be pretty popular and was placed comfortably in the top 5 most popular downloads of the week for the majority of its first week!

It’s written in PHP but the technology could easily be ported across to Perl, Ruby or whatever language you want to write in. We’re planning a Perl package to do something similar and we’re always on the lookout to create new packages in other languages – if you’ve got a specific one in mind, get in touch and we’ll see what we can do.

I’ll be writing a tutorial on how to build a functioning mobile site using just these classes and there’ll be more to come on that later, but in the mean time why don’t you grab the code for yourself, sign up for a dev key and get building mobile sites!
